A summary of Fiscal Year 2025 government-wide FOIA data is available for viewing. The Executive Branch received 1.7 million FOIA requests in FY 2025, with 4,823 Full-Time Employees processing the administration of FOIA at an estimated cost of $661M.

On June 19, ICITAP reported a major milestone in its efforts to strengthen Algeria’s capacity to combat money laundering and terrorist financing when the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) unanimously voted to remove Algeria from its grey list, marking the successful culmination of a multi-year reform process supported by ICITAP.

On June 18, ICITAP-Colombia conducted the opening session for a newly launched micro-course in financial crimes investigation in Bogotá. The course brought together 489 cadets from the Santander Police School of the Colombian National Police (CNP) and focused on money laundering, terrorist financing, blockchain and cryptocurrency investigations, asset forfeiture, digital evidence, and the use of artificial intelligence in criminal investigations.

Since 2015, The Department of Justice has provided select Tribal government agencies with access to FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) systems through the
Tribal Access Program (TAP) for purposes authorized by Congress. In a historic move, the FBI has approved an enacted resolution of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation in Oregon to allow the Tribes’ Department of Education and Department of Children & Family Services to access FBI maintained criminal history record information in order to conduct background checks.

On June 8, ICITAP counter–improvised explosive device advisors initiated a recertification course on counter–improvised explosive device tools and locate-render-safe procedures for bomb technicians of the Unité Spéciale d’Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale in Burkina Faso, building directly on a capability assessment conducted by ICITAP in February 2023 and a prior course delivered in September 2024.

From June 1–2, the U.S. Embassy in Zagreb and ICITAP Croatia, in partnership with the Croatian Ministry of the Interior’s Criminal Police Directorate and Police Academy, convened the fourth Organized Crime Roundtable, bringing together 14 senior criminal police and organized crime directors from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia, alongside representatives from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

In Gabon last month, the Justice Department’s Environment and Natural Resources Division (ENRD), in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the Gabon Ministry of Water and Forests, the Sea and the Environment, led a five-day multilateral workshop that included Cameroon and Vietnam to combat illegal timber trade and strengthen legal timber commerce.

On May 12, the ICITAP-Mexico mission reported a significant forensic breakthrough with implications for both regional stability and U.S. national security. On April 4, 2026, investigators in San José del Cabo, Baja California Sur, responded to a death investigation at a local hotel, where forensic evidence was analyzed by the Baja California Sur Forensic Chemistry Laboratory and the Servicio Médico Forense (Forensic Medical Service), both of which strengthened their capabilities through sustained ICITAP assistance and achieved international accreditation in 2020.
