Summer days at The Container Store headquarters are anything but lazy! Here's what's been going on lately..

Distribution Center Water Truck Celebrity "Water Features"

Every summer, The Container Store runs our afternoon Distribution Center "Water Truck," a cart carrying chilled water to deliver to our employees while they are working. Leaders in our Support Center office join in the fun to hand out water. Retired TCS co-founder Garrett Boone returns to our Coppell, Texas facility to make the water truck run - and this year, he came twice!

On his first visit, Garrett was hosted by Senior VP of Finance, Maria Thereza Neisler (meeting Garrett was a dream come true for her!) and Senior Director of Payroll, Benefits & Cultural, Claudine Tudgay. Executive Chairman Joel Bines joined Garrett for his second run. What a special treat it was for our teams to connect with past and present leaders!

These visits provided opportunities for our current senior leadership to spend time with one of our founders, and to show gratitude for our DC employees while bringing them a little relief from the heat!

Back to School Drive in Support of Community Partners of Dallas

Throughout July and August, our Support Center employees rallied behind the Community Partners of Dallas (CPD) Back to School supply drive by collecting over $10,000 in donations through sample sales, silent auctions, bake sales and direct supply donations. CPD supports Dallas County children in the care of Child Protective Services, providing essential needs state funds do not cover, like new backpacks filled with school supplies and uniforms, ensuring children have what they need today to thrive tomorrow.

Joel Bines Hosts Support Center Summer Social

In an act of characteristic generosity, our executive chairman Joel Bines treated our headquarters employees to a gourmet ice cream sundae bar from local scoop shop Henry's Homemade Ice Cream to celebrate months of above and beyond dedication and focus on the business. Joel donned classic soda jerk gear to assist in serving!

Above: The Container Store employees at our Coppell Distribution Center celebrating Juneteenth.

Members of The Container Store's Support Center team proudly represented the company at Opal's Walk for Freedom on Juneteenth in Fort Worth, Texas - home to 98-year-old activist and proud Texan Opal Lee, affectionately known as the "Grandmother of Juneteenth."  Her tireless advocacy was instrumental in making Juneteenth a federally recognized holiday.

Held annually on June 19, the walk raises awareness of the significance of Juneteenth  19, 1865 - the day freedom finally reached enslaved people in Texas, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

Danny Rojas, Senior Manager Talent Acquisition and captain of the company's walk team shared:

"As a Dallas-Fort Worth based company with strong Texas roots, supporting Opal's Walk isn't just about showing up for a cause - it's about standing with a legacy that began in our own backyard. It is a unique opportunity to champion a movement born right here in our community, one that reflects our values of respect, connection, and doing what's right."

Our Distribution Center teams joined in the commemoration with virtual walks in their facilities in Coppell, Texas and Aberdeen, Maryland, followed by celebratory lunches catered by black-owned businesses - a meaningful way to support our local communities and honor the spirit of the day.

At The Container Store, we honor the significance of Juneteenth by recognizing the rich culture, history, and countless contributions of African American communities. Their strength and creativity continue to shape and inspire our world in meaningful ways. We remain committed to cultivating a workplace and society where every voice is heard, respected, and valued.

In observance of Pride Month, The Container Store recognizes the contributions and achievements of LGBTQ+ individuals and stands in solidarity with the global movement advocating for equal rights and equitable opportunities for LGBTQ+ communities. This annual celebration marks the Stonewall Uprising, a pivotal series of events in Greenwich Village during June 1969 that ignited the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States.

Putting Our Pride Into Action

In celebration of LGBTQ+ culture and in an effort to foster greater awareness, education, and understanding of the LGBTQ+ experience, we invite all employees to take part in local events and volunteer opportunities that support the LGBTQIA+ community.

As in years past, team members in the Dallas-Fort Worth area are especially encouraged to support the Resource Center's Pride Celebration on Saturday, 6/28, or to explore one of their year-round volunteer opportunities - such as assisting with the food pantry, meals program, youth and family events, administrative support, and more.

We're proud of the meaningful impact our teams continue to make in the communities where we live, work, and play.

At The Container Store, our culture is built on fundamental business philosophies that prioritize respect, dignity, and integrity—not just for our employees, but also for our customers, vendor partners, shareholders, and the communities we serve.

Guided by our seven Foundation Principles®, our culture enriches the lives of everyone connected to our business, creating an environment brimming with opportunity and belonging.

Our Commitment to Inclusion & Belonging

We are dedicated to fostering a workplace where everyone—regardless of ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, ability, or religious affiliation—has an equal opportunity to thrive. Our vision is to be a company that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve—where every individual feels valued, empowered, and included.

Our Approach to An Inclusive Culture

When we developed our strategy to strengthen our culture in 2020, we focused on four guiding pillars:

·       Education & Awareness

·       Leadership Accountability & Engagement

·       Talent Acquisition & Management

·       Responsiveness to Employee Concerns

After years of meaningful progress, we've evolved and refined these pillars into three core guiding principles:

Our Employee Resource & Interest Groups (ERGs) provide spaces for employees to connect, celebrate diverse cultures, and learn from each other. These groups also lead community outreach initiatives, helping identify causes and organizations we can support.

Recognition & Appreciation

We believe exceptional customer service begins and ends with exceptional regard for our people. That's what TCS Appreciates is all about. Whether recognizing years of service, day-to-day accomplishments, or above-and-beyond results, we celebrate the individuals and teams who are at the core of our success.

Supplier Diversity & Inclusive Partnerships

Our commitment to equity and inclusion extends beyond our workforce. We actively seek opportunities to connect with small and diverse-owned businesses through our Supplier Diversity Program.

We define diversity across three dimensions: sustainable and socially conscious, owned and operated by underrepresented or historically marginalized groups, and small businesses.

If you're interested in selling your products in our stores or on our website, we'd love to hear from you! Please contact us at newproducts@containerstore.com

Companies interested in providing services or operating goods to The Container Store should reach out to us at supplierdiversity@containerstore.com

Brand Ambassadors & Influencers

Since 2018 our Brand Ambassador and Influencer Programs have consisted of diverse, socially active creators across the United States. Our partners have included men, women, parents, grandparents, students, working professionals, and entrepreneurs from all backgrounds, united in their journey to get organized and share their space transformations.

Diversity and engaging new audiences are central to these programs. We now host an always-on recruitment process, welcoming anyone interested in becoming a Brand Ambassador. For more information about the program and how to apply, click here

Community Engagement & Philanthropy

At The Container Store, we believe in the transformative power of organized spaces, knowing that they enhance quality of life. This belief drives our TCS Gives Back Program, with a focus on healthy brains and healthy hearts.

For over a decade, we've proudly supported the Center for BrainHealth, contributing over $1.3 million to vital research and programs. Recognizing the connection between brain health and cardiovascular health, we selected the American Heart Association as our 2024-2025 national nonprofit partner by joining their Life Is Why™ cause marketing campaign to inspire everyone to celebrate their reasons to live healthier, longer lives.

To learn more about how we are supporting the Life Is Why™ campaign and how, together, we can fuel the mission of the American Heart Association click here.

Employee Programs

The Container Store's Employee First Fund, established in 2013, provides grants to employees that are experiencing unforeseen financial hardship due to a major medical situation, a catastrophic event, or other grave challenges. A company contribution set up the Fund, and employee contributions and other company stakeholders provide financial support to the Fund today. To date, The Container Store's Employee First Fund has awarded more than $1 million in grants to employees in need.

If you are interested in making a donation to support this cause, please click here. Alternatively, if you are an employee of The Container Store seeking assistance from the Employee First Fund, you can apply by clicking here.

The Employee First Fund is recognized as a charitable organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.

Our Approach to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG)

At The Container Store, we are committed to doing our part to contribute to the well-being of our customers, communities, and the environment. This affects everything we do from daily operations at our stores, headquarters, and distribution centers to the vendors we work with and the products we offer.

Just like shopping with The Container Store, working here is also a stand-out experience. From the awesome merchandise (and an employee discount!) to our friendly team members, what's not to like?

Our part-time retail employees are the backbone of our business. Out of approximately 3,500 total employees, about 45% are part-time retail employees.

So, what's it really like to work in our stores? We visited our friends at the Fort Worth, Texas, location to take a peek behind the scenes.

Starting the Day: Getting Organized

Our store locations typically open at 10:00 AM. Those opening the store arrive around 9:45, clock in, then gather for a quick meeting to discuss current goals, promotions and other relevant updates.

In addition, about one day each week, delivery trucks come in the early morning to drop off new merchandise to be stocked. Cignoray, a part-time employee in Fort Worth, says "Being a part of the truck delivery is great for new employees to learn the store and know where everything goes, and a good way to sneak in a workout!"

A Typical Day: What's In Store

When store employees are scheduled to assist in the front of the store, there are two areas they could be assigned: register and sales floor.

Those on register assist with checking out customers, processing returns, and enrolling customers in the TCS rewards program.Employees assigned to the sales floor will greet customers, advise them on selecting organizational solutions to fit their specific needs, and maintaining shelving appearance and inventory.

Midway through the shift, those on the register and the sales floor trade places. This both promotes cross-training and keeps things interesting!

"To work at the register, you have to be a good multitasker. I feel like an octopus sometimes!" Cignoray says.

Order Processing: How It's Done

There are multiple ways to shop at The Container Store. Customers may browse our store locations, shop online, or shop online and then pick up their order at the store. (Many store locations even offer curbside pickup.) Of course, this option would not be possible without the hard work of our order processors in the back of the store.

Amy, who regularly works on order processing in Fort Worth, shows us how it's done:

First, customer orders are received via the order management system on the computer and the order processor checks the order to ensure the items are in stock and other criteria are correct.

After making sure everything looks good, the products are then pulled from inventory, with items in the back room being pulled first, and items on the sales floor last.

Orders of smaller size are put into shopping bags and placed on the shelves to await pickup.

Larger orders are sorted in shopping carts for easier transport later.

The team receives an alert that the customer has arrived either inside the store or in the designated curbside pickup parking space, and a team member brings the order out to the customer.

Problem Solving: Things Happen!

Occasionally, problems arise in the store that need to be resolved. On this particular day, a piece of merchandise was found on a shelf that had somehow been damaged. Cignoray was quick to take the item off the sales floor and into the back to be appropriately marked and set aside.

Cignoray marked the warped side with a piece of red tape, then proceeded to complete a "distressed merchandise" form.

Wrapping Up: Ending the Day

Our store locations typically close at 7:00 or 8:00 PM. Prior to closing, employees perform end-of-day tasks such as walking through the store to ensure all customers have left, closing the cash registers, and tidying up the shelves. After these tasks are completed, employees clock out and head home.

"I'd love to organize my _____, but I just don't know where to start!"

At The Container Store, we've heard this statement more times than we can count, and it stems from a universal fear of being overwhelmed.

But as we see it, whether you're organizing a space that's fairly common (like a pantry) or less common (like a wizard's spell cabinet), the overall process is the same. We've condensed it into a 5-step project method summarized in an easy-to-remember acronym: T-C-S-E-Z

(T) Take it out: Start by completely removing the contents of the area you'd like to organize. Clear any shelf, drawer, and/or floor space and set those items aside.(C) Clean space: Next, clean the space using the appropriate cleaning supplies. Some areas may only need to be dusted or wiped down with a damp cloth; others should be scrubbed thoroughly, depending on the circumstances. Add liners to shelves and drawers to keep them protected and make them easier to clean in the future.(S) Sort & group: Divide the items up into basic categories and place them together. If it's a garage, those categories might include tools, sports equipment, and seasonal decor. For a closet, the categories might be hanging clothes, folded clothes, shoes, accessories, etc.(E) Edit & fill: Then, go through the contents of the space and set aside the items you no longer need. (If it's your fridge, throw away any expired food. If it's a kids' playroom, put any unwanted toys into the donation pile.) Once you've purged the space of items you no longer need, you may being putting everything back.(Z) Zone space: As you replace the items in your space, create distinct "zones" based on the categories and need for accessibility. Use the appropriate bins and organizers to keep these items tidy.

At The Container Store, we proudly paid tribute to the brave men and women of the U.S.

Armed Forces throughout the month of May.

On Military Spouse Appreciation Day (May 9th), we recognized the strength and dedication of military spouses who support our service members through every challenge. On Armed Forces Day (May 17th), we saluted the courageous individuals currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. And we paused on Memorial Day (May 26th) to honor and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Christy Parra, VP of Supply Chain, thoughtfully set up a Missing Man Table - also known as a Fallen Comrade Table - in our Support Center café as a solemn tribute to the men and women who never returned home from service. Each item on this symbolic table setting carried deep meaning, representing the courage, sacrifice, and enduring spirit of those who served but did not return. Though they are absent, this table reminds us that they are here with us in spirit—never forgotten, always honored.

Once again, The Container Store encouraged our employees to support the nonprofit Carry the Load's annual Memorial May Campaign and Memorial March as a meaningful way to honor our nation's heroes, support their families, and help educate future generations about the importance of their sacrifices. Our Support Center held a silent auction fundraiser with 100% of the proceeds benefitting Carry the Load.

Above: Danny Rojas (our Sr. Manager of Talent Acquisition & Recruiting) attending the Carry The Load Memorial March with spouse Thania Olivares Rojas and their children.

Join Our Mission-Driven Team

At The Container Store, we don't just honor military service. We actively seek out veterans, military spouses, and service-minded individuals to be part of our team. Their resilience, leadership, and commitment to excellence align with everything we stand for.

If you or someone you know is looking for a career with purpose, where service and culture matter, explore opportunities with us at careers.containerstore.com. Let's grow together!

The beginning of the year is a busy time for both employers and job seekers. In this fast-paced environment, it can be difficult to navigate the recruitment process while also setting yourself apart. Recruiters from each business area of The Container Store came together to share their insight on some frequently asked questions from job candidates.

How can I make myself stand out during the application process?

Danny: Your resume is your first impression—make it count. Ensure it's tailored to the role by mirroring key skills and qualifications from the job description. But don't stop there! A well-crafted LinkedIn profile can serve as an extension of your resume, allowing recruiters to see endorsements, project work, and even recommendations. A little initiative goes a long way.

Briana: If you've worked on projects, personal initiatives, or developed skills outside of your formal job, don't keep them hidden. These experiences can be a unique way to stand out and show your passion for the role, especially if they align with the position you're applying for.

How can I effectively network in 2025?

Danny: Networking isn't just about making connections—it's about creating value. One of the best ways to stand out is by flipping the script and asking "how can I help?" This mindset, embodied by Dr. Max Goodwin in New Amsterdam (one of my favorite shows), shifts networking from a transactional exchange to a meaningful relationship. Instead of only seeking opportunities, look for ways to offer support—whether that's sharing an article, making an introduction, or providing insights. Reverse networking creates lasting impressions and opens doors in unexpected ways because people remember those who genuinely aim to help.

Emily: In today's technological age, networking can be done both in-person and digitally, and both are equally important. Keep an eye out for applicable industry events, associate meetings and job fairs. In addition, be sure to leverage your LinkedIn network by sending connection invites with descriptive messages and reaching out to those who share job opportunities.

What is the best way to show my personality and culture fit during virtual interviews?

Danny: One idea that I have always been a fan of is "how can I add to the culture?" I believed for a long time that the idea of a cultural fit is an old way of thinking. Instead of focusing on fitting into a company's culture, think about how you can add to it and help it grow. Companies thrive when they bring in diverse perspectives, fresh ideas, and people who challenge the status quo in a positive way. During your interview, share examples of times you introduced a new way of thinking, improved collaboration, or brought a unique perspective to a challenge. Asking questions like "what's something new you'd love to see in your team?" can also show that you're thinking about culture as an evolving, dynamic force—not just something to blend into.

Esther: Take the time to learn about the company and its values. Think about how your own values line up with theirs and share personal stories from your past experiences that bring those connections to life. Be genuine and let your enthusiasm for the company's culture and mission come through naturally.

How do I effectively tailor my resume for each job application?

Danny: AI can be a powerful tool when tailoring your resume. Instead of starting from scratch each time, use AI platforms like ChatGPT or Gemini to refine your resume for a specific job posting. Try a prompt like:

"Take my resume and align it with this job description, ensuring it highlights the most relevant skills and experience."

However, always review and personalize the final version to ensure it reflects your authentic experience and voice. The key is to let AI enhance your resume, not replace your unique perspective and personal touch.

Esther: Carefully review the job description and identify the key skills the company is seeking. Highlight your experience and accomplishments that align with those requirements by adding it to your objective statement, skills section, and work history. This approach ensures your resume reflects how you're an ideal fit for the role.

How do I correctly prepare for an interview?

Esther: Start by researching the company's mission, values, and recent updates to show your genuine interest. Review the job description to understand the role and practice answering common behavioral questions using the STAR method. Dress professionally, even for a virtual setting, and test your equipment—including your internet, camera, and microphone—before the interview. Finally, if interviewing virtually, set up a quiet, well-lit space with minimal distractions to create a professional environment that keeps the focus on you.

Emily: Research, research, research! This includes not only the company, but also the people you will be speaking with. This shows that you took the time to prepare and that you have a high level of interest in the position/company. Also, personal connections stand out and make you a memorable candidate, whether it's a shared alma mater, a common hobby or another characteristic.

When asked if I have any questions, what should I be asking?

Danny: The questions you ask in an interview can leave a lasting impression, so be intentional. In addition to asking about success metrics, team dynamics, or company culture, one of my favorite final questions—especially when speaking with the hiring leader—is: "Based on our conversation, I'm really excited about this opportunity. What are the next steps in the hiring process?" This keeps the momentum going while reinforcing your interest in the role.

Emily: Ask questions that show genuine interest but also answer the things you really want to know—don't be shy! Consider what is most important to you in your next role: DEI initiatives, work-life balance, etc. Tailor your questions to determine if the role truly a good fit for you.

Should I apply for a job even if I don't meet every qualification?

Danny: Absolutely. Research shows that women and diverse candidates are less likely to apply for a job unless they meet 100% of the listed qualifications, whereas men often apply even if they meet only 60%. But here's the truth—job descriptions are wish lists, not checklists. Many companies are looking for problem-solvers, strong cultural additions, and adaptable learners, not just candidates who tick every box.

Emily: Yes! Think of the qualifications section of a job posting like a wish list. These attributes are what a perfect candidate possesses. Remember, no one is perfect! Of course, it is important to meet majority of qualifications to be considered a viable candidate.

Black History Month is a time to honor the rich heritage, groundbreaking contributions, and enduring legacy of African Americans. Its roots trace back to 1926 when historian Carter G. Woodson launched Negro History Week to spotlight Black achievements often overlooked in American history. By the 1970s, this observance expanded into a month-long celebration, ensuring greater recognition of Black excellence throughout the year.

At The Container Store, we are proud to celebrate Black History Month through Limitless: Pioneers Redefining Possibilities, a tribute to the trailblazers who have reshaped industries, broken barriers, and inspired future generations. Led by our Mosaic Employee Resource Group, this month-long celebration will feature a series of events, community initiatives, and in-store activations that amplify the contributions of Black pioneers.

One of the highlights of our internal celebration is a special keynote panel featuring trailblazing Black executives and leaders who have shattered ceilings and paved the way for others:

Maritza McClendon - U.S. Olympic Medalist Chanel Christoff Davis - CEO, Davis Davis & Harmon LLC Ashley Hines - CEO, The Tailored Life

This panel will explore the fearless and innovative spirit of Black pioneers who continue to redefine possibilities in their fields. The event will be streamed live and recorded, ensuring that all team members nationwide can engage and be inspired.

Beyond celebration, we are committed to making a lasting impact. That's why the Container Store is a proud supporter of the American Heart Association's Life Is Why™ campaign, which inspires individuals to honor their reasons for living healthier, longer lives.

This year, we're supporting the American Heart Association in its mission to improve heart health and stroke outcomes in the Black community. Statistics show that Black and Hispanic adults experiencing cardiac arrest outside a hospital are less likely to receive bystander CPR—a critical factor in survival rates.

To help close this gap, we're encouraging Hands-Only CPR training, aiming to equip at least one person per household with this life-saving skill. As a proud supporter of the Life Is Why™ campaign, we invite you to join us in raising awareness, educating loved ones, and contributing to a healthier future.

Throughout February, our stores will showcase informational signage celebrating Black History Month and highlighting our partnership with the American Heart Association. Customers will have the opportunity to contribute to the Life Is Why™ campaign at checkout, directly supporting initiatives that promote heart health in communities that need it most.

We invite you to celebrate with us—whether by tuning into our keynote panel, supporting heart health initiatives, or simply taking a moment to reflect on the extraordinary contributions of African Americans throughout history.

Let's honor the past, celebrate the present, and build a limitless future together.

As we jump into the new year, we are also reflecting on an amazing holiday season! The year at The Container Store, that meant a time of joy, laughter, and giving back. From our bustling stores to our dedicated manufacturing site, we celebrated the season with our employees and communities.

Festive Celebrations Throughout the Organization

Our support center, distribution centers, and Preston manufacturing site were all decked out in holiday cheer. Employees at our two distribution centers enjoyed festive lunches and decorated their workspaces. At our manufacturing site in the Chicago area, where all Preston orders are built to order, employees celebrated with sweet treats and an ugly sweater contest.

Giving Back to the Community

Our merchandising teams showed their holiday spirit by creating handmade cards for a local nonprofit organization. This act of kindness brought joy to those in need and highlighted our company's commitment to making a positive impact on the community.

A Holiday Wonderland in Our Stores

Our stores transformed into holiday wonderlands, offering a one-stop shopping experience for all your gifting needs. Shoppers could find everything they needed to celebrate the season, from festive decorations to thoughtful gifts.

Join the Fun in 2025

As we look forward to a new year, we're excited to continue creating memorable moments for our employees and customers. Want to be a part of the fun? Check out our open positions company-wide and join our team!

Recently, many employees at The Container Store's Support Center and Manhattan Logistics locations participated in a fun event for the North Texas Food Bank. Different groups from across the company donated canned goods and used them to create fun sculptures that we call "canformations."

Several teams got together to enjoy tasty holiday treats and create fun structures out of the donated items. These structures included a giant heart (above), a Christmas tree, a set of Christmas lights, and even a classic New York City coffee cup. And most importantly, we ended up collecting over 2,250 lbs. of food to be sent to the food bank!

As we worked on these creative group projects, our team took some time to reflect on the things we are most thankful for, including what makes The Container Store a great place to work. We asked our employees one simple question: What are you thankful for as an employee of The Container Store?

Of all the responses received, the overwhelming majority indicated they are thankful for our people and culture. Jackie Harper, a 17-year veteran of The Container Store, said "I'm thankful for my colleagues. The strong team-centered culture where we're all invested in the company's success--as well as each other's--make our work incredibly rewarding."

But it wasn't only longtime employees who felt this way. Kelsey McFarland, who was hired less than one year ago, has already felt welcomed by the company's inclusive culture. "I am thankful to be surrounded by smart and kind people who make me want to go to work!" she gushed.

We at The Container Store are so thankful for the employees that make it such a wonderful place to work every day, and we wish both our employees and customers the very happiest of holidays!

The Container Store proudly celebrates the rich heritage, cultures and contributions of Americans with roots in Spain, Mexico, Central and South America, and the Caribbean. Spanning September 15 to October 15, this observance coincides with the Independence Day celebrations of several Latin American nations, including Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua.

Hispanic Heritage Month provides a meaningful opportunity to spotlight the diverse voices and experiences of Hispanic/Latino Americans, honoring their rich histories, journeys, and achievements. It also serves as a platform to highlight the profound cultural influences the Latino community has contributed to the United States. Whether in entertainment, sports, business, or science, Latinas and Latinos continue to enrich our society in countless ways.

Throughout the month, our Mosaic Employee Resource Group will host a series of events and experiences that pay tribute to Hispanic heritage. These initiatives include an educational keynote featuring a panel of internal and external senior leaders, a community service weekend focused on transforming spaces for a local partner, and newsletter spotlights showcasing Hispanic American employees and Brand Ambassadors.

At The Container Store, one of the ways we transform lives through the power of organization is by creating custom solutions that fit the unique needs of every space in a customer's home. These custom spaces come to life via the hard work and dedication of our Outside Sales and Design Consultants (OSDC). Whether it's our modular Elfa product line, an innovative Avera system, or a customized built-to-order Preston solution, our OSDCs can remedy even the biggest organizational worries.

The OSDC position is a sales-centric role that combines exceptional customer service skills with design expertise, ensuring a satisfying experience for every client. They engage with customers through repeat business, customer referrals, or through inquiries from clients seeking expert solutions, both online or in-store. A seamless customer experience is delivered throughout the entire custom space process, which includes an in-home consultation, design service, installation and organization. No matter which product line, every custom space project is treated as a personalized experience and result that is tailored to each customer's needs.

We recently spoke with two of our current OSDCs to learn more about their day-to-day responsibilities and why they love what they do. Sebastian Aguilar, based in the Washington D.C. area, has been with the company since January 2021 and was promoted into his current role in May of last year. Chiara Borruso works out of our Paramus, New Jersey store location, and has been with The Container Store since January 2022.

What's a typical "day in the life" of an Outside Sales and Design Consultant?

Sebastian: My day begins with a team check-in, where we discuss our ongoing projects and any challenges we need to tackle. Next, I meet with clients in their homes, in-store, or virtually to gather insights into their unique requirements and preferences. This part of the day is all about understanding their lifestyle and organizational challenges. With this information, I then dive into designing custom storage solutions that capture the essence of their vision and progress to the careful selection of materials that will bring the design to life. As the day winds down, I review the progress of ongoing projects, ensure everything is on track, and prepare for the next day's consultations and design work. It's a fulfilling blend of creativity and practicality that makes each day exciting and rewarding.

Chiara: The day begins with checking emails to stay updated on client inquiries and project updates. Most days I meet a new client for a consultation, discussing needs and measuring the space. Depending on my calendar, I might head to other appointments; if not, I work on designs. Walking the sales floor is another favorite activity of mine, as it allows me to explore newly arrived products and brainstorm how to integrate them into my designs effectively. This hands-on approach not only keeps me updated on the latest trends and offerings, but also inspires innovative solutions that enhance the quality and creativity of my work.

What is your favorite thing about working for The Container Store?

Sebastian: My favorite thing is the collaborative environment. The team is composed of talented individuals who are passionate about creating functional and beautiful spaces. There's a strong sense of support and teamwork, which makes every project a joint effort. Additionally, seeing the satisfaction and happiness on our clients' faces when their spaces are transformed is incredibly rewarding.

Chiara: Every day is a new adventure where I get to combine my passion for fashion and design with a commitment to meeting my clients' needs. As a dedicated professional, I thrive on the opportunity to connect with new clients and learn about their lifestyles, understanding their unique preferences and aspirations. I find joy in translating my clients' visions into reality. I am grateful for the opportunity to pursue my passion daily, creating meaningful connections and bringing creative visions to life.

What is something people might be surprised to learn about your role as an OSDC?

Sebastian: People are often surprised by the level of intimacy and trust involved in our work. Clients invite us into their homes and share their daily routines and personal habits so that we can design solutions tailored specifically to them. It's a privilege to be trusted with creating spaces that not only meet their practical needs, but also enhance their lifestyle and well-being. It's about more than just storage--it's about creating harmony in their daily lives.

Chiara: Something people might find surprising about being a custom spaces designer is the level of detail and customization involved in each project. It's not just about shelves and racks; it's about understanding the client's lifestyle, habits, and storage needs down to the smallest detail. Being a designer involves a meticulous blend of practicality and creativity, aiming to transform a mundane storage area into a personalized sanctuary that reflects the clients' unique style and organizational needs.

What is your favorite custom spaces project you've worked on?

Sebastian: A standout project for me was designing a custom walk-in closet for a client who had an extensive wardrobe but needed a space that was both functional and visually appealing. We included glass-front cabinets and LED lighting to highlight her collection. The end result was a stunning, Instagram-worthy closet that perfectly matched her style.

Chiara: One of my most memorable projects was a beautiful closet for a female client. Working with her was a delightful experience because of her collaborative approach and clear vision for her project. Together, we were able to execute the design exactly as she envisioned, resulting in a finished space that perfectly met her needs and preferences. The client's positive attitude, fashion sense, and effective communication made the entire process smooth and enjoyable.

How does the Outside Sales Design Consultant role provide work/life balance?

Sebastian: The role offers excellent balance through flexible scheduling and the option to work remotely. TCS values our well-being and understands the importance of balancing professional and personal life. This flexibility allows us to stay motivated and maintain our creativity, ensuring we can deliver our best work while also enjoying our personal time.

Chiara: The OSDC role provides a flexible schedule and the option to work virtually anywhere.  Depending on your scheduled appointments and project timelines, you can schedule your own work hours.  Building strong relationships with clients can lead to referrals and repeat business, which can provide stability and predictability in your schedule. Designing custom spaces can be creatively fulfilling and provides a sense of accomplishment that extends beyond work hours.

At The Container Store, our way of doing business is built on our Foundation Principles, which we equate to "7 Ways To Do The Right Thing." These are:

1.    1 Great Person = 3 Good People

2.    Train For Success

3.    We Sell Complete Solutions

4.    The Best Selection, Quality & Service

5.    Air of Excitement

6.    When It's A Win-Win, We All Win

7.    Communication Is Leadership

The Foundation Principles not only guide how The Container Store operates, but also foster a company culture that prioritizes employee growth, teamwork, and creating a positive customer experience.

This month we spoke to two exceptional employees—Lucy Bond and Betty Hernandez—who have demonstrated these principles wonderfully throughout their careers. With a combined tenure of over 25 years, they offer unique insights into how these principles have shaped their careers and the company's culture, and as well as how it helped them discover their dream jobs!

Lucy Bond, B2B Contract Administrator

Lucy, can you tell us a bit about your journey at The Container Store?

I joined The Container Store in November 2022 as a Project Coordinator in the B2B (Business-to-Business) department. After 8 months in this role I was presented the opportunity to apply for the department's Contract Administrator role, which is the one I currently occupy.

What has been your most rewarding experience so far?

Collaborating with other departments on potential new revenue streams for the company has provided me the opportunity to work across organizational boundaries and gain a deeper understanding of how different parts of the business operate. These experiences can be crucial for moving into higher-level management or leadership positions.

If someone was considering applying to The Container Store, what would you tell them?

Do it—you'll be glad you did! Not only will you enjoy your job, but also the people you work with, and that's equally important.

Betty Hernandez, Store Facilities Manager

Betty, you've been with The Container Store for over two decades. How has your role evolved over the years?

My career journey started when I took a part-time position in the Distribution Center working for Special Processing. After working a few months on that team, I was offered a full-time position to manage the barcode labels of our products.

A few years later, my organization skills and attention to detail caught the attention of Karen Beardmore (who was our Director of General Services and Purchasing at the time), and she offered me an opportunity to work in the office as an Administrative Assistant. That later opened up other growth opportunities and led me to the Store Facilities team, which I've been a part of for the past 25 years.

What is it that's made you want to stay this long?

The Container Store's culture has contributed greatly to my enjoyment of coming to work for the past 28 years. I feel so valued and respected by my peers.

What's been one of the highlights?

I was recently a recipient of a Foundation Award, which is only given out to seven people within the whole company each year. What better career success can I point to than that? It was truly a surprise, and I am beyond grateful for my team and their trust in me.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career at The Container Store?

My advice is to take the opportunity and don't look back. You'll never know where it will take you.

We consider The Container Store more than just a job—it's a community where individuals can grow, connect, and discover their true potential. If you're looking for a way to build a fulfilling career, make meaningful connections, and have fun while doing it, The Container Store just might be the perfect fit for you!

This post was originally published on Byron's personal blog and reshared with permission.

Making the move from suburbs to ranchland didn't come without serious game-changing perks. It was apparent from the moment we set eyes on this property that bridge-ward shack came with endless potential! With this kind of space, the idea of creating a Chef's fantasy factory has never been so real and with a lot of elbow grease and collaborating—we're making headway.

Starting with days of hauling out old junk, clearing debris, and cleaning like you wouldn't believe, the blank canvas was all there and the first step was to get ORGANIZED! Partnering with the Container Store made what could have been an ordeal, as pain-free as possible. There's not a Chef out there that doesn't dream of having a place for each and everything tool and for a store where keeping organized is a lifestyle, that's no problem!

Considering the quantity and weight of the items I needed housing for, choosing sturdy shelves that were easy to assemble, keep clean, and transport with ease was essential.

I'm a big fan of the InterMetro line of shelving. It's SUPER STURDY and heavier than I was expecting. Plus, it's solid as a rock. I was able to get them up and usable in the no time and that's something we can all appreciate. They're definitely strong enough to carry my cast irons, cutting boards, and many culinary oddest of ends—total SCORE! Getting organized is one of my many loves, second to get get a good deal! Loving that the Container Store is doing 25% OFF on all InterMetro products through April 8th, which included all of these shelves.

Back to the assembly, I began lining the shack with the InterMetro baking racks so I could start spacing out my tools and honing down on a proper place for everything. I definitely have a kitchen tool for just about every occasion you can think of, and I can only imagine that my collection will grow..so it's great to have a design that can be added to as needed. These racks are going to be filled with plateware, pots and pans, spices, dried goods, and anything else I'll need for a proper day of shack cooking.

These magnetic knife strips were also a great find for keeping my knives organized and easily accessible. I can slice, dice, and not skip a beat between switching up dishes. Also, these help me keep an eye on the quality of my knives since they're always out in the open instead of being stuffed in a drawer..just be careful of where you end up hanging them since the blades are exposed.

And, just like in my home kitchen, clear airtight containers make food storage a no-brainer! Everything keeps fresh and you don't have to waste any time searching because it's all right in front of you. These will be perfect for dried spices, baking goods, and anything else I'd like to keep super sealed for a longer shelf life.

For items that I'm using at the moment, a rolling Chef's cart like this one is super handy, and in this case, strong enough for even my heaviest pots and pans. The butcher is an added bonus for an on-the-go workstation.

Even though these handy dandy hanging hooks didn't come from the Container Store they kept up with the overall idea of keeping things in place and organized.. You can hang just about anything you could fit on the hook since they're very sturdy and they have a really nice rough finish on the metal so nothing slips off easily. Again, the key was to keep everything visible and easily accessible.

It's finally starting to look like a kitchen in here!

I want to thank Container Store for all the "mise en place" for "THE SHACK!" This project is still a work in progress, so I'll make sure to update you on new recipes and additions as it all unfolds! I like to think of this new space as a kitchen/workshop/recipe lab for new and inventive ways of cooking. Creativity always beats creativity!

I can't get over my rolling butchers/chefs cart! Probably one of my favs from the collection.

This was just the tip of the iceberg with the clean-up btw..there's more to come with this..maybe even a few coats of fresh paint too. Can't wait to share more if this process with y'all so stay tuned!
