Welcome to the Tenth edition of the half century a month challengeTHIS THREAD IS FOR RIDE REPORTS ONLY - discussions should take place over in the 2024 chatzoneThere were already challenge threads for monthly imperial centuries (100 mile rides) and metric centuries (100 km or 62.14 mile rides). So @ColinJ thought it would be a nice idea to come up with an easier challenge for those who don't have the time, energy or inclination to do the longer rides so he created the half century...Read more

Welcome to the 6th 'Annual Lunacy Distance Challenge'. This challenge is not intended to replace any of the 3 current monthly challenges. They are fine tests of cycling consistency throughout the whole year and I encourage you to attempt any (or all!) of them if you feel able to. This is something different, which you might find interesting. Notably, as the title suggests, it's not monthly, it's annual. Please read on...This thread is only for the logging of your qualifying rides...Read more

A thread specially for 'persons of leisure' and independent means, or those with aspirations. How do you while away those lazy days? How do you cope financially? When did you retire? Is retirement what you expected? How long did you take to adjust?Etc.Tell us what you are up to today or what plans you have.Or just have a bit of silliness to while away those lazy hours.I've been busy today. Hilly 15 mile ride in North Devon, took dog for a stroll along Saunton Sands, cut the front lawn...Read more

OK, in 2013 we got an 08 seat already xl for about 5 grand. Before that car I got a 4.5 grand astra estate that was 4 or 5 years old. We've been looking at decent sized cars like the altea xl was when we got ours and tbh 5 year old SUV or estate cars seem a lot more these days. We saw a 7 year old vw caddy selling for 18 grand online! That's like a slightly better kangoo I think.Anyone know what the used ICE car market is doing? Are we in a period of time when used cars are especially...Read more

Mine was so good. (I did go for that ride...glad i did)Just over 20 miles, but since the rear ends a bit sore...Suns been shining here all day, 13 or 14 degrees, 15 mph winds made it a bit slow on the outrun, but fast home (20 -25 mph for 6 miles ). Very very glad i went....now i feel guilty about feeling good How was yours....

Many years ago I chosed Schwalbes Marathon Plus tyres for my bikes, reason the advertised puncture resistence. Now I'm about to dump these for another brand and/or model because, in topdown order of annoyancy 1) They are very hard to get off, and also back on, without denting/damaging the rim and the tyre end, risking rubber pieces coming off, exposing the steel wires to rust, and compromising the structural integrity (poof..) of the tyre.2) I still got 1-2 punctures yearly, most due to...Read more

https://amp.theguardian.com/artandd...-on-the-wall-for-the-british-seaside-postcardPostcards are going extinct. Smart phones, social media and the price of stamps are all to blame. So when did you last send or receive a postcard? I suspect I haven’t done either for well over 15 years. Soon no one will know the feeling of getting a post card weeks after the sender returned home.

I'm currently at some indeterminate point through an enormous mid-life crisis and as such have a new-found interest in dressing "well"; having been exclusively a "T-shirt and combats" kind of bloke for as long as I can remember. As such (and being one four-pack of Kronies deep currently) I'm intrigued to hear of what all you blokes like to wear - and of course what the ladies like to see us in I'm currently flying high having sourced a couple of pretty nice charity shop suits and...Read more

Seems to be one for films and TV and not one for gigs, comedy or concerts... so I thought I'd start one off... along with the fact I went to see PJ Harvey last night at Brixton Academy...Superb as always... voice like an angel, 10 musicians on stage, excellent sound and the band was tight and spot on...
