A thread specially for 'persons of leisure' and independent means, or those with aspirations. How do you while away those lazy days? How do you cope financially? When did you retire? Is retirement what you expected? How long did you take to adjust?Etc.Tell us what you are up to today or what plans you have.Or just have a bit of silliness to while away those lazy hours.I've been busy today. Hilly 15 mile ride in North Devon, took dog for a stroll along Saunton Sands, cut the front lawn...Read more

For my folding bike. Braking with the steel rims is ludicrous.Do you have one?

Couple of things lately when going into bike shops...1Went into a bike shop that was part of a normal town shopping centre. Looked at the stock and an assistant came up and chatted to me, so I asked a few questions on thier drop bar range. He then proceeded to tell me I would need to spend at least £5000 (not a typo!) in order to get an 'entry level bike that was worth having'. I should add, he was already aware I was not looking to compete or race. I was also told a 'decent'...Read more

Hi, Thank you for allowing me to join. I am aged 80+ and have just decided to give up on driving a car, its sold so no going back.I have purchased a 2nd hand Zipper Z3 which seems to be in good order and I am slowly getting used to it. The bike did not have any documentation with it and I am puzzled by a few ityems including the 3 position power(?) switch which I do not understand.Zipper is proving incredibly difficult to contact. I did search for an information document on line and...Read more

IMO bicycles probably reached their zenith in the late 80s. The frames were made with beautiful lugs, and they had down tube shifters. Frames with lugs were brazed together with low heat, and the tubes were not damaged. With down tube shifting the bike were clean of cable flapping around, especially if you had your brake cables under the handlebar wrap. And they already had click shifting and clipless pedals. Bikes didnt get any better than that.

The film thread is getting all cluttered up with idiots like me rating serials, shows and documentaries. So, here is the all encompassing TV thread.Review and rate what you're watching or have recently watched, please hide spoilers behind tags!I'll kick off with:Making a Murderer - 6/10A solid but at times frustrating account of Steven Avery. It's a pretty damning critique of the American legal process, and the commitment of the filmmakers is impressive. But some parts are...Read more

Couldn't find a good existing thread so.....This is a 30 ton Rolling Mill Flywheel from Low Moor Iron Works nr Bradford. It serves as a monument to the works that originally closed in the 1920s and the continuation works which sprang out of the ashes finally closed in 1971.It's quite large! Note the plaque says Steel Works but I believe it was originally started as and known as an Iron Works.

Out for a for a run early this morning with Lemmy. Bottom half of the village is very olde worldly and has narrow footpaths. Sure enough, there's some chump sat in a transit flat bed parked half up on the path.I try to squeeze by without slowing down, as is my lawful right, but I'm too big and I thump into his mirror as I go past. Transit mirrors are designed to take knocks and I didn't damage it.I carry on running and Neil Anderthal jumps out of his van and gives a mouthful to my...Read more

Another cheerful topic on the trials of life, and it's choices, not that we have much choice about this. Many of us, including myself, on here are near t the 'arse end' of life rather than the other end. When would you like to go? Do you hope for many more years of life and living to good age or do you think I've done alright, I'm happy, not much point hanging around much longer, I'd like to go.I don't have any major health issues so could possibly go on for many more years.I'd just be...Read more
